The older OHL forward is having a stellar season with the North Bay Battalion, scoring 41 goals and 47 assists in 64 games. Russell finished 10and in the league with 88 points.

Teammate of Sharks prospect Brandon Coe, Russell currently leads the OHL playoffs with 11 goals and is second with 22 points. The battalion will open the OHL Eastern Conference final against the Hamilton Bulldogs tomorrow.

“Mitchell is a character player and an on-ice leader with good production that helps his team win,” San Jose Sharks interim general manager Joe Will said in a team press release. . “He has a strong pedigree as a skater who was selected in the first round of the OHL draft.”

The 6-foot-0, 193-pound forward didn’t play last year because the OHL canceled its 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
